We provide information, advice, money advice and advocacy services to the public.
What we do
We support service delivery through:
- The Citizens Information Phone Service (0818 07 4000)
- A nationwide network of Citizens Information Centres
We also fund and support the Money Advice and Budgeting Service (MABS). It provides free, independent and confidential support for people who are in debt or at risk of debt.
Services we support
We directly host the citizensinformation.ie website and maintains the mabs.ie website.
Our role
As part of our wider functions, we:
- Maintain the MABS website (mabs.ie)
- Support the National Advocacy Service for People with Disabilities
- Support the Sign Language Interpreting Service (SLIS)
- Support the Register of Irish Sign Language Interpreters (RISLI)
We operate under the remit of the Department of Social Protection. Our role, as set out in legislation, is to:
- Ensure access to accurate, comprehensive and clear information relating to social services
- Support individuals, particularly those with disabilities, to identify and understand their needs and options
- Improve accessibility, coordination and public awareness of social services
- Provide information on the effectiveness of social services and policies and highlight issues affecting service users
- Provide or support the provision of advocacy services for people with a disability
- Support the provision of advice on personal debt and money management through the Money Advice and Budgeting Service
